Artist's Statement
Some moments pass slowly or seem to never pass at all while others rush past too fast to perceive in detail. Some experiences happen in an instant yet others evolve over many years. My sculpture series Time and Space is a three-dimensional exploration of the four-dimensional human experience.
Motion is inherent in the nature of human experiences. Every living thing is in constant physical motion. But, because the human experience is shaped not only by our physicality but also by our intellectual capacity for memory and abstract thought, these pieces are largely about the metaphysical.
Time and Space consists of over twelve works in both bronze and glass. I employ a unique technique of dynamic motion renderings that came about as a result of my experience working in stop motion clay animation combined with my classical figurative sculpture training. My sculptures are accompanied by an ongoing series of original dynamic line drawings.
While traditional figure sculpture has addressed the eternal and timeless truths, these pieces speak to change and the temporal nature of being.
About Georgianna Krieger:
San Francisco sculptor Georgianna Krieger received her BFA in sculpture from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where she studied with Harvey Citron and Walter Erlebacher and was the 1990 recipient of The Philadelphia Plastic Arts Society Award.
Over the years Ms. Krieger has worn many creative hats including commercial artist and designer, while continuing to work privately on her sculpture. Her creative work has included clay animation, murals, museum exhibit design, toy design as well as sculpture. Also holding a Bachelor's degree in music, Ms. Krieger is an active jazz musician.
Believing that art is achieved through years of contemplative study and practice, she has worked over a period of years to create a meaningful body of work.
In late 2001 Ms. Krieger premiered to the public an ongoing series of very limited edition sculptures entitled "Time And Space". Each piece is hand crafted and each is unique in its details. Her figurative, yet contemporary, sculptures in bronze and other cast materials, are accompanied by a series of gesture drawings.
Georgianna Krieger lives in San Francisco's Richmond District with her husband, composer Michael Kaulkin, and son Philo.
